“I’ve been kissed by a…” Wait, not that Seal. An actual seal rescued a dog that was being swept away from shore by swift currents. While this story is nearly 10 years old, it still manages to delight and inspire today.
From The Daily Telegraph:
“A seal was seen coming to the aid of a drowning dog and pushing it to the safety of a river bank.
Chris Hinds, a court warrants officer, was out walking his own dogs when he saw the alsatian-cross injured and whimpering at the water’s edge. As he approached, it panicked and plunged into the River Tees only to be swept away by the fast-flowing tide on Tuesday evening. Mr Hinds, 43, sent his son Raymond, 18, to call the fire brigade and RSPCA from his mobile phone in his car parked nearby.
He stayed on the bank beneath Newport Bridge, Middlesbrough, to follow the path of the dog. As the dog yelped 30ft out and he shouted, a seal popped up and began to circle the stricken animal. Then to Mr Hind’s amazement it swam up behind the dog and used its nose to push it by the backside on to mudflats.
“I just couldn’t believe what was happening in front of my eyes, it was a truly amazing experience I will never forget,” said Mr Hinds, of Middlesbrough, who had been out walking his own two dogs. I thought the dog would die because there was nothing I could do to get to it. When the seal suddenly appeared from nowhere I wondered what it would do. It took a matter of seconds to save the dog. I don’t know why the seal did what it did. I can’t explain it.”‘

Animals are so much smarter than people give them credit for. I used to have a cow that would watch me try to get another cow in the barn. Finally I would ask her to help & she would then stand in the way at the door so it would have to go in the barn.

my comment is it could only have been the way God made animals/mammals to react to help one another. I think God made us as humans that way to. God Bless us Every-one.

I BELIEVE THAT GOD HEARD THE CRY OF GUILT & PAIN THAT MAN PROBABLY FELT, BECAUSE HE HAD STARTLED THE DOG, SENDING IT INTO THE WATER. SO HE SENT ONE OF HIS ANGELS IN FOR A SWIM – (CLEVERLY DEGUISED AS A SEAL!) MATTHEW 10:29 “ARE NOT TWO SPARROWS SOLD FOR A PENNY? YET NOT ONE OF THEM WILL FALL TO THE GROUND APART FROM THE WILL OF YOUR FATHER.”

Animals, all animals are a gift from God. We are not aware of all they know and are capable of in helping even us.

We are learning much about animals; their compassion, their empathy, their intelligence, their capacity for love. And they are learning about us. I think we are getting the better education.

God is still trying to teach us humans that we are to love and take care of our fellowman. If animals know this lesson then what else is it going to take to get us to understand. Thank you Lord for helping us to see that we are to love our fellowman as you have and do love us. God Bless this little seal for a lesson in love.

This story makes me think of how God, uses the foolish things to confound the wise as written in The Bible. He sometimes shows himself in what some say as mysterious. For those who think of “animals”, as wayside…think again.

Thanks for reprinting the “seal saves dog” animals tend to “live in the moment” and they possess an incredible UNCONDITIONAL LOVE ……they don’t try to reason why they should or should not do something.

Reading the article about the seal saving the dog from drowning delighted me. I love dogs & other pets. It is not understood, but somehow the seal knew the dog’s desperation and came to the rescue. Thank you for writing about this happening. It brought joy to my heart.
