This has been my dream since I was a toddler and realized both of my parents strove so hard to overcome the social stigma against their lack of vision. My mother gritted her teeth whenever “Amazing Grace” was sung in church, especially the line: “T’was blind, but now I see.” She taught at the New York Institute for the Blind, commuting to Columbia to get her college degree, but couldn’t get another teaching job after my birth. It took me years to discover the Idaho government fired my father from his job as a home teacher because he was blind.
There’s hope for all of you who read this via a voice synthesizer or Braille.
