Teachers told to stay 3 feet from students

Teachers at a public high school in Turkey’s Antalya province on the Mediterranean Sea have been ordered to stay at least three feet away from their students and to avoid any touching whatever.

The order comes after on a decision handed down by Erdem Kaya, education director for Antalya’s central Muratpaşa district and relayed to school headmasters in the area, according to Turkey’s Hurriyet Daily News.

A spokesman for Kaya’s office, Nurettin Sönmez, said the decision has not yet put into effect in all area schools.

However several, including Muratpaşa High School, have issued the notice to their teachers. Headmaster İlhami Kotan issued the order in a memo that, in part directed: “The distance will not be less than one meter to avoid encountering such situations as sexual exploitation.”

“This decision humiliates both students and teachers. We vehemently reject it,” said Nurettin Sönmez, Antalya branch head of the Education and Science Personnel Union.

How sad. Once again the little ones are targetted. A loving touch or hug from a teacher is sometimes the only expression of love that a child gets. I know there are some people who want to do bad things to kids, but the think the good teachers out-number the bad ones. May God help us all!

Standing at one meter will not improve the situation for sex contact . It must have purpose of respect shown by student to teacher . This will help both the teacher and students one is giving and other is receiving in obedience. Respect to age and elders advise must get valued in schools and at homes. There are no other ways.

This is not dogma supertious and biggotical. This is social science humility must start here.
