A Montreal judge has ruled that Paula Celani worshiped illegally — fining her $144 — charted with cult activity.

“On a Sunday morning two years ago,” reports Graeme Hamilton in Canada’s National Post newspaper, she and “about 80 members of her Catholic lay group gathered in a hall they had rented from the city.
They watched an inspirational video, they prayed and they capped it off with a potluck lunch. “We had a beautiful day,” Celani recalls.
“But now that beautiful day has generated a nasty court battle after she was hit with a $144 ticket from the city, which alleged her event was illegal because it involved religious worship,” reports Hamilton.
It seems that Montreal now prohibits “cultic” activity such as “praying, singing religious songs or conducting religious celebrations” on city property. Several city employees observed the illicit prayer meeting and turned the Catholics in. Oddly enough, it took Montreal seven months to mail Celani a citation.
No one had warned Celani, she says, or anyone else in the group, that prayer and worship is now a legally prohibited activity in parts of Quebec.
This week her lawyer advised Montreal’s municipal court that they will challenge that fine on grounds of unconstitutionality.
“The case illustrates how far the pendulum has swung,” writes Hamilton. “Public displays of religious faith have come under increasing scrutiny in recent years as Quebecers have embraced secularism. The opposition Parti Québécois has proposed legislation that would prohibit members of the civil service from wearing ‘ostentatious’ religious symbols.”
“Ridiculous doesn’t begin to describe it,” noted the National Post. ”Frightening is a much better place to start.”

Is this really a surprise to any God-loving Christian? I fear that it won’t be long before such laws are enforced here in the United States. Our Founders would be astonished if they were here to see how God has been nearly banished through this absolutely unconstitutional “separation of church and state” that has kicked God to the curb. May God have mercy on their souls.

….the system which wants to take God out of everything; that’s okay and Christians should focus their time on the Great Commission in other ways. Have “home church”; do a newsletter; etc. Christians are taught in the Bible that we will be persecuted for His namesake…. so be it. Move on, be positive and keep the faith.

In order to book this room did she not have to state the reason she was using it and pay for the use of said room? if so she should have been told at the time that said type of meeting was illegal, not 7 months later with a citation and a fine.

Frightening .. VERY scary … Christians .. Catholic, Greek Orthodoxy, Protestent (Baptist,Luthern, etc.) will have to go thru a test of fire within our grandchildren’s life time.

I think this is where our world is headed. If you are Christian, all you do will be scrutinized and vilified. Isn’t it in Canada where they allow drug addicts shelter and clean needles to be used freely? Hmmm…drug addicts can gather in public sponsored shelters to do illegal activity but Christians cannot pray? Wow! 2 Timothy3:1-5 says it all.

I want to see and listen to the judge at his or her death hour calling for someone to help, but everyone around is going to fear being prosecuted if they lend a helping hand lest they may be accused of posing as doctors or nurses…I want to listen to the judge who issued this uneblievable sentence, what he or she would say if they ever visited a road in Paris that becomes totally out of bounds for the muslims to do their friday prayers..I want to imagine what this judge would have to say when appearing in front of the Judge of judges and be judged for such actions…like stifling the Christian faith in such unimaginable manner..
Let us all pray that such behaviour in any court is not repeated and that there can be enough people who may request that an appeal court can and will overturn such disgraceful judgment…
Let the arm of the Lord have mercy on the people who are stifling the believers in Our Lord Jesus Christ, who was born into this world to redeem all souls and who paid with a crucifixtion that modern men and women just cannot imagine what suffering HE must have been through.

For those of us good folks who know and follow what is right with God and Jesus Christ is becoming a question to so many others- because of all the freaky stuff that others do in the name of religion. Our world is getting too crazy and losing what was intended to keep us on the right path towards “OUR” Stairway to Heaven. There are still many true hearts learning and following and slowing down the deterioration of civilization. So- If 1 person gets drunk, then all the rest of the normal world is not allowed to ever have another glass of wine. Say, 1 person fails a test- then everybody flunks? I Pray for Us All, Good, Bad, Or Stupid. Because I’m all 3 at times, and so are many more of us. But without the word and service- we could be alot worse!

Christians are being persecuted again as in Rome.I don’t know what is so hard to understand.The BIBLE was written over 1,000 years ago and the prophecies declared then that are coming true today should tell these people that there just might be a GOD. As for me I believe, I have good friends and have enjoyed spending time with them.The way I see it if I am wrong I have my friends and good times and have lost nothing. If those that don’t believe are wrong what have they lost?

I fail to understand how praying on city property could be against any law. If you were a Jew in 1930s Germany you had to wear a religious symbol. The pendelum, it seems, has swung 180 degrees. Now if you wear a religious symbol (or say a prayer) you are wrong. This reminds me of the attempts to ban Christmas displays in the States. This isn’t surprising, satan is the ruler of this world. And this is coming to America- soon. Get ready folks, if you truly love the Lord and read His Word, you will not be shaken when this happens on a national level. Our brothers and sisters are being persecuted all over the world right now. How do we deserve to escape that, but they do not?
