Tension continues to spread throughout Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province after public announcements that an American preacher burned a Koran.
Police struggled to control a mob attempting to destroy a Full Gospel Assembly church in Lahore after clerics in local mosques denounced the incident. Two separate mobs from different mosques chanted anti-government and pro-Islamic slogans as they burned tires in front of the church. Police dispersed the crowd.
The clashes came after American preacher Terry Jones oversaw the burning of a Koran on March 20 at his 30-member church in Florida. He told the news media that a “trial” had been conducted in the church, which found the Koran guilty of crimes against humanity.
Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari condemned the act and Islamic groups have announced a countrywide protest to take place on March 25.
In Lahore, most of the 250 Christian families in the neighborhood around the church have sent their daughters to relatives for fear of further violence.
“I was taking my daughter to school when I saw a small group searching for something in the garbage. Later, hundreds arrived shouting to burn and demolish the church”, described Irshad Shaheen, the choir leader.

Just look at the pictures and the look on the faces of this mob. I think people need to stop the hate and really practice what they preach. This type of disrespect for each others (book) is not going to ever make our world better. We do not have to keep saying that we are right. Jesus did say pride will come before a great fall.

If i dont abuse anyone, then i dont allow any to abuse or insult me. I do honor to other faiths and sure want them to honor my faith.
Yes, there will be differences of views. But can be solved by arguing, listening and speaking. And if some one disagree, due to his miss understanding, he should speak to people who knows the facts. It doesnt mean he start insulting 1.5 bln people. If one thing is not sacred to you then remeber it will/can be sacred to others. On your own liking/disliking, you cannot impose your so called judgement on others.
If i like it myself, then same will be for others. I cant favor the burning of any sacred book in the name of so called freedom of speech. Free speech doesnt mean to abuse me or insult me and my faith. you can argue with me but with reasons and manners.
I remember the verses of Quran,
Surah 109. Al-Kafirun (The Disbelievers, Atheists)
1. Say : O ye that reject Faith!
2. I worship not that which ye worship,
3. Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
4. And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship,
5. Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
6. To you be your Way, and to me mine.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – A 24-year-old Muslim man desecrated the Bible at the gates of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lahore on Friday in order to “avenge” extremist American preacher Terry Jones’ desecration of the Quran in Florida last month.
Police arrested the man, identified as Akhtar Hussain and registered a case against him under Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Section 295-A states: “Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the ‘religious feelings of any class of the citizens of Pakistan, by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representations insults the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, or with fine, or with both.”
